Ragdoll Care & Transition Guide
Everything you need to know to help your new companion settle in smoothly and live a healthy, happy life.
1. The First Week Home
Transitioning to a new environment is a big adventure for a young kitten. To help them feel secure, start by introducing them to a single, quiet room (like a bedroom or a cozy home office) with their litter box, food, fresh water, and a comfortable bed.
After a few days, as your kitten gains confidence, slowly open up access to the rest of the house. Keep loud noises and sudden commotion to a minimum during their initial adjustment period.
2. Diet & Nutrition
Ragdolls grow steadily for up to three or four years. Providing high-quality kitten food rich in protein and essential nutrients is critical for their bone structure, muscle development, and plush coat.
- Fresh Water: Always provide clean, fresh water. Many cats prefer pet water fountains because moving water encourages drinking.
- Consistent Schedule: Keep feeding times consistent to support healthy digestion and predictable litter box habits.
3. Coat Grooming
Even though Ragdolls have luxurious semi-long coats that are remarkably resistant to matting, they still benefit greatly from routine attention. A weekly session with a soft slicker brush or metal comb keeps their coat silky, removes loose fur, and doubles as a great bonding time.
4. Indoor Safety & Veterinary Care
Because of their exceptionally trusting and gentle personalities, Ragdolls are strictly indoor cats. They lack the street smarts needed to navigate outdoor hazards safely.
Pro-Tip for Aussie Owners
Keep toxic plants (such as lilies) and human foods (such as onions, garlic, and chocolate) completely out of reach. Schedule regular veterinary checkups and stay up to date on routine booster vaccinations.
